Just before 8 p.m. Friday, the Duluth Fire Department responded to the report of a structure fire at 100 block of East 3rd Street.
The original dispatch reported a lot of smoke coming from a two-story apartment building. Upon arrival crews found a large amount of smoke coming from a basement unit. There was an on-scene report of a person trapped inside. It was later confirmed that the occupant was not home at the time of the fire.
