Legendary Mike Hill on the state of Enger Park Golf Course:
“It’s hard to believe Enger Park Golf Course was open on Saturday, April 3. Conditions for this time of year are fantastic. In my 40 years playing Enger I don’t ever remember it being so dry on opening day. The greens are in better shape than they were in June of last year. When we get some precipitation and sun the grass will really pop. I looked over every green on the front 9 during my round Saturday and all of them came through the winter in great shape. It will be a great year. The fairways and rough are also in great shape, and the normal wet spots at this time of the year are dry. There are three fairways (3, 4 and 7) on front 9 that really need to be re-seeded like 13, 14 and 16 on the middle were last year. I know it’s walking only right now, but there could be carts out there. The only reason carts are not on the course is because they are not ready — they all need to be tuned up — and maintenance has been scheduled as normal. So as soon as they get tuned up, carts will be allowed.”
